Useful, but should've left room for the straps! January 7, 2009 The Wii 4x Quad Charge Station is perhaps the most useful and stylish charging station for anyone with 4 Wiimotes. It comes in a nice round base, has indicators for charge levels and even has a Wii-style, blue LED-based light ring. It may seem cheesy but beyond being a bit of an unnecessary waste of energy, it looks quite slick.
My only complaint about the charge station is that the slots for the Wiimotes don't really support you having a strap attached to each Wiimote; with some wiggling effort you may be able to get them to charge without taking the strap off, but whichever route you take, it's more hassle than it should be.
It's still less of a hassle than having a base station that only charges 2 Wiimotes at a time, though, so if you have 4 and often play with up to 4 people, these hassles are not too hard to overcome.
Feels Very Cheap November 20, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I don't know why it is so difficult for a company to make a decent charging station for the Wii. In fact, I don't know why Nintendo doesn't just make one themselves. In my opinion the only "good" Wii remote charger on the market right now is the Nyko dual charger. It is a shame that they do not make a quad charger.
I bought this Penguin United quad charger based off another review stating that it had good battery life etc. The battery life does seem to be pretty good but I don't expect these batteries to have a very long extended life expectancy. The entire system is very cheap feeling and the batteries are so light weight that it almost seems as if there is nothing inside. Just trying to place the remote in the charging station is a chore in of itself. The opening is very tight and if you do not position the remote perfectly it will not charge.
The indicator light are not very clear either. The instructions say 1 light is 25%, 4 lights is 100% charged etc. However, with no remotes in the charging stations all 4 lights are illuminated (as well as an annoying blue ring of light...) Why do all these accessory companies feel the need to add an annoying blue light to everything they make!? You shouldn't have to struggle for 10 - 15 seconds per remote just to verify that it is making a proper contact. You should only need to drop it in and let it start charging.
I just want a good quality charging station for the Wii, is that so much to ask? I am definitely returning this charging station and buying a second Nyko dual charger even if it means I have to give up another power port...
