Very Helpfull December 1, 2008 I found this book very helpfull. I'm a first time mom living far from family and sometimes I just don't know what to do with my daughter. This book gave me some excellent ideas. My only complaint is that my child is still a little young for most of the ideas, but she'll grow into it.
Great idea book for toddlers November 29, 2008 This is a great book. It has all sorts of ideas for busy toddlers. My daughter and son-in-law have tried many of the ideas with my granddaughter and love it.
Great, simple activities for toddlers August 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this book to quell my daughters' incessant pleas to "play with me," because I had rapidly run out of games to play. The book is full of simple, common sense ideas for toddler activities. As I was reading the book, I found myself thinking, "Now why didn't I think of that?"
The book is divided into sections such as "Rainy Day Play," "Outdoors Play," "Music and Movement," "Out and About" (for activities in the car), and "Seasonal Crafts" (decorations for holidays, including Hannukah and Kwaanza, and homemade gift ideas). Most of the activities require some preparation beforehand, but it is minimal. The book also contains a list of items that the author suggests you keep handy.
In the first chapter, before getting into detailed activities, the author describes some general ideas (e.g. a rainy day box, a chore jar, a baker's box for the kitchen during meal preparation, etc.) that don't require a great deal of supervision (although, it is emphasized that toddlers in general require supervision). The author also gives suggestions for organizing activity times, arranging activities for your babysitter to do with your children, and taking advantage of unexpected free time in order to do activities with your children.
The majority of the activities are extremely practical. Some projects allow a great deal of hands-on interaction between parents and children, while other activities foster independent play. I have a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old, and I have found that most of the projects and activities keep my children occupied for at least 30 minutes, if not longer.
Toddlers can actually DO this stuff! August 20, 2008 I appreciate this book because it's full of ideas that are actually for twos and threes! Most "toddler and preschool" activity books I've found are over a toddler's head, but not this one.
We love all the different ideas.....some are worth hours of play and some just 5 minutes, but the book is full of great ideas!
My 2 yr old has had so much fun with all the activities I've pulled out of this book. It's saved me on rainy days!
not that useful June 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Most of the suggestions in this book were not useful to me. Many of them were totally obvious. First, quite a few were different versions of "make a box of toys for a rainy day", or different versions of "gather kitchen tools, tupperware, pots and pans". Second, a lot of the activities take a lot of time to prepare and then keep the kid entertain for just a couple of minutes. Third, some suggestions are just home-made versions of very cheap toys that I just rather buy than spend so much effort and make a mess at home preparing them. In this class you'll find home-made playdoh, bubbles, stacking cups, markers, puzzles, etc. Overall I found this book a waste of money and time. Not a single original idea that I could use.
