Product Description The heartfelt stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Divorce and Recovery provide support, inspiration, and sometimes humor on all the phases of divorce. The writers share their personal stories about the initial shock of the decision, to the logistics of living through the divorce, to the inevitable self-discovery, and the new world of dating and even remarriage. It is a wonderfully uplifting book. Readers going through a divorce will find this book a tremendous source of emotional support and a good guide as to what to expect as they go through the process. The first Chicken Soup for the Soul book was published in 1993, and became a publishing industry sensation, ultimately selling eight million copies. Since then, more than 150 Chicken Soup titles have been published, selling more than 100 million copies. Chicken Soup for the Soul has won dozens of awards over the past 15 years, and its founders, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen have become celebrity motivational speakers and authors.

Healing and Humor November 26, 2008 I think this book will be a great comfort to those going through a difficult time in their lives. It will bring healing and humor, as well as a sense of "I can get through this" and "I'm not alone," which is critical when facing the emotional strain of going through a divorce.
Chicken Soup books are filled with stories about real people in real situations. Some stories are heartwarming, some heart-wrenching. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry. I like the way they stir my emotions, and help me work through difficult times.
I contributed my own story to Divorce and Recovery. Although I don't feel that I have any better insight into dealing with divorce than anyone else who has gone through it. I was fortunate to get involved with a small group through my church that addressed bitterness and forgiveness. This helped me uncover the fact that I was carrying around a lot of bitterness from my divorce because I had not forgiven my ex. Thankfully, a way was provided for me to do just that, which is what my story in Divorce and Recovery is about. I hope the readers will see that they can forgive their ex-spouses. Forgiveness is not an easy road to travel, but carrying the burden of bitterness with you only makes your life's journey more difficult.
The dedication reads "To all the hearts that have been broken: may you find help and hope within this book - maybe even some laughter - to help you heal again."
There are so many issues addressed in this wonderfully insightful book. If you are dealing with divorce, get this for yourself. If you know someone who is dealing with a divorce, do them a favor by giving them this invaluable resource.

Book Review: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Divorce & Recovery: 101 stories About Surviving and Thriving After Divorce (Soul Pub, 2008) by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Patty Hansen
The purpose of this new paperback from the successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series, is to reassure the reader that though divorce and recovery is hard, you'll survive, you're not alone, and you can be happy and independent.
Broken into nine sections, the stories focus on:
* Is this the end, or the beginning? * Forgiving and letting go * The marriage is over, but we're still friends * A family is broken, but our hearts are not * Special moments and everyday miracles * "It's all about me!" * Dating after divorce * Blended families * New ideas and wisdom
The stories in these sections provide emotional support for shock, complications, children's needs, self-reliance, dating, remarriage, and recovery. Most are from female contributors, exploring viewpoints of both young and adult children whose parents divorce. The reader will also find out what to expect in the dating world after many years of marriage, and learn about how others made peace with their spouses.
An example comes from Monica Giglio, who tells a childhood story of how she barely survived a fall through thin ice which taught her lifelong lessons about how to carry on when life seems bleak and hopeless. These are all heart-warming stories which can help ease the pain of divorce.
Jack Canfield is the co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. At one time he received a Guinness World Record certificate for having seven books from his popular series appear on the New York Times bestseller list.
Mark Hansen is the co-founder of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. An author and speaker, he works with Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and the March of Dimes.
Patty Hansen was President of legal and licensing for Chicken Soup for the Soul Enterprises until April, '08. She remains active in Chicken Soup for the Soul Pub. LLC.

My Included Story: Helping the Kids Cope October 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a story included in this collection called "The Gift," which deals with how I cope as a father of three young children, and the myths associated with divorced fatherhood. More that pitching just that, I think a lot of healing and understanding can come from others' true stories -- perhaps more so than can be gleaned from a gaggle of parenting "experts" on television or in magazines. So I recommend the book, if only to know that others are going through what you might be (especially if you're a dad without residential custody). If you like my piece, keep your eyes peeled for a collection of my essays coming out June 2009 called "The 40-Year-Old Version".

Forgiveness is a gift to yourself! September 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I, too, have a story included in this wonderful book. But, the divorce I write about is my parents' divorce in the 1960's....the devastation and sadness I felt as a young girl and for many years after. Because of my dad's near abandonment, it took me over 30 years to truly forgive him. Forgiveness is an amazing gift to yourself, as well as to the person you forgive.
the beginning, not the end September 25, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My friendship with my first husband lasted for over fifty years. I am so pleased to pay tribute to that long relationship in my story, When He Looked Like James Dean, in this new book. I urge those who divorce not to allow bitterness to get in the way of getting on with their lives, nor to let differences cloud the memory of the attraction that drew them together in the first place. The key word in this book's title is "recovery." It's not an easy task, but those who get past the first trying days of the divorce often find that they may face opportunity in a way they never had imagined.
