1 out of 5 stars Dreck   December 2, 2008
This book is so bad that I couldn't be bothered even to skim it. I'm amazed that the author has published as many books as she has. I found the book disjointed; the plot such as I gleaned was illogical. The characters were poorly developed. The author merely tells us how enthralled by one another the main characters are, implying we should find them great, too. One of the ways a book engages us it showing us how characters view their world and each other. Why should we believe something an author presents when that author can't even create a plot worth following, or be bothered to create a world seen through her characters' eyes. Why can't the author show us why the characters, and us, should be interested in the world the characters inhabit?

3 out of 5 stars Why are all of Ms. Feehan's heroines small, skinny and beautiful?   November 18, 2008
I used to absolutely LOVE Christine Feehan's writing but lately... well it's left me feeling flat. All of her characters are tiny, beautiful women bordering on perfecton who always get the rich and or nice guy. Unbeleiveable. Not to mention the fact that us 'normal' women who are 10 to 30 pounds over weight and are close to 6 feet tall ourselves have a hard time indentifying with a heroine like that.

I don't mind a perfect heroine now again but to always have your heroines described the same way with narrow rib cages, narrow hips and most of them being under 5'5" tall...it's getting repititious. Especially when these same women are 'mating' with men well over 6 feet tall. Picture them having sex. Heck, the man would have to bend over in bed to kiss the woman while making love. How sexy is that?

This book is pretty much the same as the others as far as characters go. I had a hard time liking Joley. Nearly perfect as most of Ms. Feehan's characters are, she's a bit spoiled and frankly, appeared just a little TSTL to me. She knows she's getting threatening letters yet goes out unescorted to jog. She may as well have been screaming "kill me I'm right here!"

And I'm not even going to mention the numerous daytime tv like sub plots that make you wonder if you're really reading a script for a soap opera.

The only reason I'm scoring it a 3 instead of lower is there is a lot of great romance once you get past the annoying 'feel sorry for mes' and 'will people still like me if they find out I like dominant men?' character flaws Joley has. Seriously, who would know you're into that unless you tell them, for pete's sake?

I hate to say it because Ms. Feehan has been one of my favorite authors for over ten years but I'm getting to the point where I'm not going to purchase her books anymore because they're pretty much all the same. The characters and descriptive lines have become too repitious for me.

If you're reading for great sex, then that is one of this book's redeeming qualities, that and the romance Ms. Feehan is famous for.

4 out of 5 stars Enchanting Review: Turbulent Sea   October 30, 2008
TURBULENT SEA
CHRISTINE FEEHAN
Paranormal Romance

Rating: 4 Enchantments

Joley Drake is one of seven sisters who all have powers. Joley's voice holds her power. She can influence and persuade people just by simply speaking. Her singing voice is so powerful that she has a strong fan base. But some of the fans are becoming too obsessed and to the point of dangerous. Ilya Prakenskii seems to have a magical hold on her because he is all she can think of. Will he be able to save her from the threats she faces or is he just as dangerous as her stalker?

Ilya Prakenskii is bodyguard to one of the most well-known Russian hit men. And he is not known for good reasons. Appearances seem that Ilya is one of the bad guys, but is that really what is going on? Ilya knows that Joley is destined to be with him but he is not willing to force the idea on her. She has to make that decision on her own.

Joley Drake is on the road with her band. While they are living the high life, partying, drinking, drugs, and having women come and go from their beds, Joley is stuck night after night not even being able to sleep. When Joley gets the news that Logan's baby was on its way she jumped at the opportunity to go and tell him. At least that is why she told herself she was going. Truth was that she craved Ilya. Her body and her soul wanted to be near him, see him, and hold him. If only they would listen to her head. A girl at that party goes missing and it is when Joley talks to the girl's mother that her suspicions are true. The girl is nothing more than a child. Joley suspects she knows who is responsible but when he turns up dead, she doesn't know what to think. Who among them is a murderer? Who is sending her threatening messages? And where is the girl? Joley only finds herself deeper in mystery when she uncovers a human trafficking operation.

TURBULENT SEA is the sixth book in the Drake sister's series. I have been craving this story ever since Hannah and Jonas's book, Safe Harbor. Ilya was such a mysterious character that you could not help but to wonder who and what is he? Well TURBULENT SEA answers all. I think that out of all the Drake sisters she is the one that I am most alike. She has a kick butt attitude, yet emotional and caring. Ilya gave me goose bumps. His character was exactly what I want in a man, just don't tell my husband. The way that Joley and Ilya interact is something that should not be missed. Turbulent Sea is a great addition to the Drake sister series and I can not wait to see what Elle's story, Hidden Current, will bring!

Christine Feehan is the New York Times bestselling author of the Carpathian series, Drake Sister Series, and Ghost Walkers series. To find out more about her and her great series please check http://www.christinefeehan.com/index.php

5 out of 5 stars Drake Sister number six.   October 21, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Joley Drake is one of seven daughters of a seventh daughter and endowed with special gifts that could be both blessing and curse. It was her spell-singing talent that made her a megastar. When she opens her mind she can feel the hopes and dreams of the people in the audience. Jerry, the band's manager, has warned Joley that the threats against her have been escalating. Seems she has at least one nutcase fan fixating on her, not to mention the holier-than-thou slime calling himself "the Reverend". But the only man that Joley craves is Ilya Prakenskii, a man too dangerous for her in so many ways. Ever since he had zapped her palm with a spell months ago her palm has been imprinted with his touch and his scent. She has been marked as his.

Ilya is the lead bodyguard of Sergei Nikitin. Nikitin's public image is of a charming businessman. But Nikitin is more of a Russian mobster with a violent and bloody past. Nikitin even has Brian, Joley's best friend and lead guitarist, believing he is harmless. But Joley is a Drake. She can read people through touch. And she can feel the darkness and evil in Nikitin without laying a finger on him. Ilya is a different story though. And when Joley's life is threatened on tour, she has no choice but to let down her mental guards and let Ilya in.

***** You do not need to read the previous titles in this series to totally enjoy it, but you should if you wish the full effect. The author did a fantastic job at updating new readers to the series, and refreshing the memories of others, without making it sound like a lecture. Author Christine Feehan always strives to please! *****

5 out of 5 stars Loved how she showed her vulnerable side   October 20, 2008
I really liked Joley and Ilya. She was very afraid of giving herself up to a man and losing herself in the process. He was so patient and loving with her, letting her know not to be afraid and he would always love her. I liked her protective side when her family went against them and felt sad for her when she thought no one in her family really knew her. I like this and you don't have to have read the previous book about her sisters, but I recomment you do because they are really good too.
