Does not work correctly - doesn't stay closed July 15, 2008 I had several issues with this item and with this order.
This case is designed like a lot of handheld gaming device cases. It is meant to enclose the unit, leaving holes in appropriate places for cords to plug in, and you just play with the device permanently inside the case.
The issues I had with this item and this order were as follows:
1. There is a very small tab on each side with an indentation in the center. These are designed to fit into slots with little pegs that go into the indentations, and keep the case closed. They don't work; the tabs don't keep the case closed when the device is in it, and it falls open if you do so much as pick up the device when encased. I tried it on two different devices with the same result. I suppose you could glue the tabs shut, but obviously this is not desirable (for one thing, you couldn't change the faceplate without destroying this case to get out the unit).
2. The overall construction is very thin. This is normal for mobile gaming device cases, but this is exceptionally thin, like not much thicker than the hard plastic bubble pack it came in. Putting a phone book on this would probably crack it. This is probably the reason for issue #1 above.
3. Beware if you have Amazon Prime, because as I do with everything I simply clicked "Buy now with 1-click." The result was 2-day shipping at a charge of $30.24, almost 3X the cost of the item itself and clearly unreasonable in comparison with other orders weighing considerably more than this tiny item. If not for this postage rip-off, I would probably just have thrown the item out, but IMO this is clearly an unreasonable "shipping and handling" charge.
I was disappointed with the product and even more so with the seller over the postage issue. I have sent emails to both Amazon and BoxWave regarding the postage issue; hopefully BoxWave will accept a return with full refund including postage, on the basis that the unit was not functional.
I also ordered Game Boy Micro iShield Case. It works differently, more like Sony's own cases for the PSP, but it is better-constructed, closes tightly and works a lot better. I recommend the Dreamgear case 100% over this one.
