Good Game, Got SOUND WORKING IN VISTA!!!!!!! July 23, 2008 While I've been into Drag Racing for many years, Drag Racing Video Games have been lacking; to say the least. I found this game in the Bargain Bin for less than ten buck, so what the heck. I've been running Vista since Beta. Boy has it come a LONG way. After figuring out how to install it on Vista, I as like everyone else, disappointed with the no SOUND problem and ValueSofts nonexistent post release support.
I figured out how to get sound to work in games like this... First, you MUST have either a Creative Labs X-Fi or Audigy 2 sound card. The X-Fi Xtreme Gamer is the best out there. You can also use other brand cards that use the X-Fi but the key to getting sound is Creative's ALchemy program. after opening ALchemy, it WILL NOT list this game. you must Click ADD. The next window (Game Settings)you will first time the Name of the game. Type this however you want. Next, clock the radio buttion nect to use Game Path. mine is C:\Program Files\ValuSoft\NHRA Quarter Mile Showdown. Click OK. Then you will see the newly added game. Click the arrows pointing to the right column to add to that column (ALchemy-enabled Games. Close Alchemy. Now, if you try to run the game it will crash. You MUST run this game as Administrator. This can be done by either right clicking the game each time you open it and choose run as administrator, or browse to C:\Program Files\ValuSoft\NHRA Quarter Mile Showdown\ and right click the games exe file and choose properties. Click the box Run as Administrator! You are DONE and have a game with SOUND. try this with ANY game you are having sound problems with.

NHRA QMS - Great On-Line Game May 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is really great! It's the closest thing to real NHRA professional Drag Racing. The physics and grafix are excellent cause u really get to feel the car when its goin down the track. There's tire shake, tire smoke, dropped cylinders, blower explosions, and of course the best of all the flames all lit when u make a night time pass. There are Top Fuel Dragsters, Nitro Funny Cars, and Pro Stocks with all your favorite drivers from the 2006 NHRA championship. It's a bit difficult to tune these cars but with some practice and some help from other on-line racers you can have a real blast with this game. Remember to install the patch from valusoft and you can go on-line to race with the best.
Good game for a Drag Racing fan but there are Vista issues February 8, 2008 This game has a bit of an issue with windows vista in that there is no sound. This is due to the fact that vista no longer fully supports directsound as XP and 2000 do. While in most games this just results in the loss of 3d sound effects, unfortunately, in this game, it results in no sound at all. It appears that valusoft, athough seemingly aware of this problem, are not willing to do anything about it in way of a patch so Vista users are stuck with a mute game.
I can't really hold this against the game too much as vista is not officially on the list of supported operating systems and apart from being a bit silent I really enjoy playing this game. There is loads of scope for tweeking the setup and tuning of your car and I've had many hours of fun tweeking things like spark gap, blower overdrive, fuel flow, clutch timings etc. then doing a run and analizing all the data in the form of graphs to see where I can get away with further tweaks and further improve my E.T and Speed. This is what drag racing is all about and I love it, though it has to be said that, if you're not quite such a drag racing nut as I am, the novelty may wear off rather more quickly.
Overall, a great fun game if you're a hardcore drag race fan. Graphics are pretty good if a bit dated but you can't increase the resolution past 1042 x 768 which is a bit of a pain when running on a 1680 x 1050 lcd screen like me, but you get over it. If only I could hear the sound I would give it an extra star.
This game sucks!!!!! April 9, 2007 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I cannot believe NHRA allowed it's name to be used on this game. What a pile of garbage!!!!
Great game for every drag racer November 10, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It is a little hare to work with keyboard. Mouse works better and steering wheel setup should work even better.
