 Great Editing Software January 6, 2009
I bought a Sony HDR SR11 AVCHD video camera which i have been very happy with. Instantly you realize that you need editing software. After researching all the available software that will edit avchd i settled on Vegas pro 8.Its worked flawlessly.You will be making almost professional video in no time. Just go to youtube there are endless tutorials.I also use Vegas for editing all my music files and making mp3 cds. I've been making stop motion video with the grand kids. It's been a lot of fun and almost as good as some of the stuff on youtube. Just one more thing though you will have to go to newegg and put together a new computer with lots of hard drive space and a quad processor with a good video card or you are in for a lot frustration.

Just bought a new Canon HG21 AVCHD and this software will not recognize it. Hooked up my older Sony Mini DV and it works fine. BEWARE! Sony claims UNRESOLVED ISSUES!

Program easy to use and all instuctions clear for even the first time user. Amazon has the retail price wrong though. It sells at Sony for 549.99 not 699.00 as they have on there sell for price.
Seamless Editing control September 8, 2008
This is by far the most_stable video editing software out there. Works extreemly well with larger HD files and rendering is seamless. I've had it for over four months and no issues at all. Great interface. ALso comes with DVD architect which alone is great as well.

Sony "Vegas Pro 8" is simply one of the best high-end video editing software on the market. The package includes Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect Pro 4.5. (Update 1/3/2009: Vegas Pro 8 users can update to DVD Architect Pro 5 for free, providing Blu-Ray support).
We have produced over 20 instruction videos using Vegas (starting with Vegas 4) and could not be happier with the results. Every step from capturing the footage off our Mini-DV Canon GL2 Camcorder to authoring the master DVD is a smooth process.
Here are some general observations:
* The interface has a nice layout right out of the box, but is also easily customized to suite your personal editing habits
* The included plugins are top notch and compare nicely with some of the high dollar add ons for Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects
* Easier to use and learn than Adobe Premiere Pro
* Unlimited Video and Audio Tracks
* Great interactive tutorials are actually useful
* Great chromakey (greenscreen) functionality
Home and casual video editors might also want to consider Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9, which has most of the same features (with a limited number of Video and Audio tracts), but is much less expensive.
Highly recommended!
