Product Description Hit the road with your cool new band and discover how much math plays a part in everyday life! Build key math skills as you manage money, buy food, use maps and more to help your band climb the charts. With Math for the Real World you can master all the math skills you need to succeed in real life!
Amazon.com Review Who cares about cosines--how much should we tip the waitress? Math for the Real World from Kaplan presents teens and preteens with the math they'll actually need to get through the day. The program is set up as a narrative game; as you hit the road with your band (the Arithmetones), get ready for problems: How much should you pay for a new guitar? Which month did you make the most money? What size frames do you need for your posters? Over 4,000 crazy developments haunt your tour and force you to use your brain to keep following the beat toward your final destination. Online help is always available if you get stumped, and the difficulty level constantly adjusts to your successes. Once you've completed your tour, you can enter the studio and make your own music video along with one of the songs provided--you can even jam along with the musicians if you like! The creative problems are all based in the reality of the story, rather than dry, random textbook scenarios, and there's enough variety that you rarely see the same one twice. Even the most obsessive teen will find the music wearing thin after a while, but by mixing up the songs a bit you should be able to keep playing and jamming until you've got the subject covered. It might not make you a rocket scientist, but Kaplan's Math for the Real World will help you cover your financial bases and keep waitresses happy for the rest of your life. --Rob Lightner

Very engaging, fun and entertaining. May 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My students loved this game. They were eager to learn the math in order to complete their tours. This game really helps students to strengthen problem solving skills. I would recommend this to any K-8 student and teacher. Also check out Grammar For The Real World.
Math For The Real world Yo March 23, 2006 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
This game is of the hook, the graphics are better than in half-life, or doom 3. The band names are awesome. Mine is beat 2 beat. The back ground is amazing. The video maker is awesome. The math problems are like ones i haven't even learned yet,and i am in College. The best game for all those crazy gamers out there!!!!
A little boring, but you learn February 24, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
this game was very confusing when i first installed it, but after about five minutes i figured out how to play it. it's a good game but it gets boring after 30 minute periods. There are parts that i don't understand how they have to do with math at all, but all in all a good game, i would recomend it for fourth and fifth graders, possibly third graders who are learning decimals, or sixth graders who are reviewing concepts.
