Schoenhut's bright red or white 25-key tabletop is the perfect choice for a toddler's first piano. Both fun and educational, it is an ideal instrument to use for developing eye-hand coordination and encouraging musical creativity. Chromatically tuned, the lovely chime-like notes are produced by little hammers striking precision-ground, German steel music rods (versus the conventional taut wires used in full-sized models). Schoenhut's patented Learning System, with its play-by-color teaching method, makes playing simple and fun. A removable color strip fits behind the keys to guide small fingers from chord to chord. The chart also works on adult keyboards, since keys on Schoenhut toy pianos are of corresponding width. This teaches children proper "finger stretch" from the very beginning. The accompanying Songbook contains a collection of familiar tunes. This Learning System has been specially designed to build a child's confidence and develop basic playing skills. This piano is toy-sized, but isn't really a toy. It doesn't have felts and strings, but it does have 25 real full size keys, hammers and metal bars. A metallic music box sound, but perfectly in tune. We got two of these for 2 different grandchildren and the parents can't resist playing Bach variations and Rhapsody in Blue on them. The grandchildren for whom the piano was intended are in the "banging" stage and this little piano is holding up just fine. Color coded stickers and an instruction book showing how to play some easy songs appealed to a 5 year old sibling. The wood cabinet is very sturdily made and beautifully finished in shiny bright red. Attractive, educational and built to last. Very nice item.

Solid construction. Seems to built like a real mini piano.
A warning label reads that toy is for 3+ years old due to small parts and sharp edges.

My 2 year old daughter received this piano for Christmas, and she loves it! It seems durable and well-made It is not a cheap junk plastic piano This piano is meant to be kept. She plays with it several times a day. Our daughter has many developmental delays and the piano is a perfect height for her and the keys have allowed to use her hands better. This was the best Christmas present she received.
All in all, I would not hesistate to buy this one. Yes it's more than the "toy" pianos, but well-worth it.

The piano is awesome. But these guys tell you it is shipping, give you a delivery date and the day before it is supposed to be here - when your daughter is all psyched about her new piano - they send you an email saying "we are out of stock". Um. Didn't you say it already shipped? Jerks.
Cancelled the order and got the piano from someone else.

I ordered the My First Piano II for my son's first birthday. They were out of the one I ordered, and after sending me the wrong one, they immediately corrected it by sending an even nicer one the next day, in time for his birthday. I was so impressed by the customer service at Schoenut...rare these days. My son loves banging on it - the sound is really good for a toy piano, and it's sturdy and attractive. I recommend the one with 25 keys instead of 18, since it will continue to be fun later on when he can actually play something. I'm also glad I ended up with the taller one, because he doesn't want to sit much now and he can play it standing. Later he can use the little bench. I very highly recommend this product!
