Description After running away from home, 12-year-old Nathan is wanted by the cops. After stealing the mob's loot, he's wanted by the crooks. With both sides of the law on his tail and a fortune in cash in his pockets, Nathan is doing everything but laying low. He's living it up - with a lavish hotel suite and a megabucks shopping spree. Soon, even this streetsmart kid knows that his game of hide-and-seek has become all too serious. So now he's teaming up with police to get these ruthless criminals before they can get him. From runaway to fugitive to hero, Nathan is having the adventure of a lifetime...in a movie that shows how outrageous things can get when crime fighting becomes child's play.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FAMILY FILMS? February 22, 2002 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Back in 1994 there was this charming family movie called "Blank Check". It was done in the usual Disney fashion. Silly events occur which end up putting a 12 year old in possession of a blank check. He uses his computer to fill it out for a million dollars and then tries to cash it. The film is, of course, unrealistic but tons of fun. The kid and the people around him are so nice that you wish you could be there along with them. That brings us to "Deadly Game".For the life of me, I simply can't understand why movie makers are so obsessed with making all of the characters in their movies jerks these days. Perhaps it is the "cool" factor. Maybe I am completely out of touch and families who watch movies get more entertainment watching mean people instead of nice ones. Anyway, "Deadly Game" is about a 12 year old named Nathan (Ryan DeBoer) who witnesses a mob hit. He sees the victim hide a key just before he gets whacked. Nathan figures out what locker the key opens and the next thing you know he has a bag full of mob money. Norm (Tim Matheson) is a police officer who is put in charge of trying to protect Nathan from the mob. My problem is with these main characters. The kid Nathan is extremely nasty. He starts out the movie as a petty thief and proceeds to do nothing but degrade and lie to everyone he comes in contact with. Norm is an alcoholic, incompetent cop who was responsible for his fellow officer getting killed. They make a great team huh?!! Neither of these two guys are funny or cute or even remotely pleasant to watch. The movie itself plays out in the most predictable way possible. This is yet ANOTHER movie where a 12 year old kid is much more intelligent than any police officer. You already know how the movie is going to end and what's worse is that you really don't even care. The Fox Family Channel could learn a few things from Disney about what movies to be involved with.
A Deadly Game of Hide and Seek April 2, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Deadly Game", also know as "Hide and Seek" and "Catch Me If You Can", is about a 12 year old boy, Nathan Thomas (listed in the credits simply as "kid"), who witnesses a gangland murder and is taken into protective custody by down-and-out police detective Norm (Tim Matheson). But street-smart and mischievous Nathan proves too much for Norm as he makes this a game of hide and seek. It soon turns out to be a deadly game of cat-and-mouse phone-tag as Nathan retrieves a bag of cash that was hidden by the murdered gangster before he got rubbed out. While Nathan lives high on the hog, Norm tries to find Nathan and protect him. Because the gangsters want to find the kid, too. They want their money back - and they want to eliminate the witness to their dirty deeds. Families can enjoy this movie together. The movie is fun and Ryan DeBoer makes it all worth watching. I recommend it!
