1 out of 5 stars Gawd-Awful   February 23, 2008
This movie is unbelievably bad. More the shame, because it is (loosely) based on one of the very best children's books, and best mystery novels, ever written. I remember well staying up until 4am one weekend night when I was eleven, reading this book cover-to-cover. Adjectives fail to capture how wonderful and remarkable the original book is, which makes it particularly loathsome that someone has managed to make a film that is at once boring and distasteful out of it. Actually, the film shares little with the book besides the title, the names of a few characters, and the lyrics to a song. If the author were still alive, she'd sue for defamation. Smash your DVD player with a sledgehammer rather than subject yourself to this movie.

2 out of 5 stars Completely Unlike the Book   October 9, 2004

If you're looking for a faithful adaptation of the book, look elsewhere. This movie bulldozed over key characters and plot points. So disappointing.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you Westing Game   June 22, 2004

All I can say is wow! Never before have I witnessed a cinematic experience like this. Just like The Matrix, I will be questioning all of life's nuances from now on. The comedic timing of the two leads are exceptional. It mixed Chaplin-esque physical comedy with Naked Gun slapstick. They could have been the next Affleck-Damon duo if they did not choose to pursue their Engineering careers. The editing was done seamlessly and the sound quality was ahead of its time. Will there be a Westing Game prequel? All the world can do is wait...

5 out of 5 stars The movie that started it all   June 19, 2004

It is so rare that a movie can truly be called a masterpiece. But in combining flawlessly the elements of comedy, suspense, action, and drama, directors Lethbridge and Fernandez have created a piece of cinematography that is just that. All stunt work is handled by the always graceful Manny Perry. The surprise twist ending will have you thinking of nothing else for weeks after seeing the original Westing Game, which is arguably the finest in the Westing Game quadrilogy. This smash hit also stars James Earl Jones, Dan Castellaneta, Bob Saget, and Don Cherry. This movie deserves more than 5 stars, but that is the limit that the fine people at Amazon allow.
