1 out of 5 stars Wait for the BBC to restore the audio; 2nd tape has problems   February 25, 2005

AWESOME STORY. But due to problems on the source tapes, episodes 6-10 have 'audio dropouts' making the story difficult when not impossible to listen to. This is a shame as it's a great story.

Hopefully the BBC can restore the damaged audio track or find someone who had recorded it during the original transmission.

Okay. So its 10 episodes long. So what! Watch the tapes in intervals. If you do, this serial is really enjoyable. Watch Doctor Who the way it was meant to be!

This is the only Troughton tape that I gave five stars to. It really was a wonderful farwell piece to the second doctor as well as his companions. This serial also marks the end of the black-and-white era for Doctor Who. It is a wonderful work and is by no means boring in any way. Any Doctor Who fan will love this story.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent example of the second Doctor   February 14, 2000

This is truely a classic Doctor Who it is 4 hours long, but is worth watching. The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe are at their best. This is the story where it is finally revealed that the Doctor is a Time Lord, the last one with Patrick Troughton as the Doctor, and the end of the black and white era of the program. Truely a great story.

2 out of 5 stars The War Games is no War and Peace, but just as long   January 22, 2000

Over 4 hours long! Ok assuming you have a greater than average attention span, you probably will be able to sit through this...epic? The War Games does involve various accounts of different wars such as the Hundred Years War, the American Civil War, and the Great World War, to name a few. The problem lies in the writing. Episodes 4-8 are riddled with superfluously trite discourse that adds nothing to the story. I literally fell asleep during episode 6 or 7 and woke up an episode and a half later without missing any of the story. None. The War Games could have easily been 4 episodes (6 max) without losing any of the meat. Now you might think I'm being unfair, but I really don't think so. I'm trying to save you money and 4+ hours of your time. If you want a good Patrick Troughton video buy The Tomb of the CYBERMEN, it is awesome! Now there are some very memorable moments to the War Games and this is ashame because the rest of it...well...isn't. The last hour is exceptionally good and answers many questions regarding the past, present, and future of Dr. Who, and as a result you may want to suffer through the rest of it. Lastly, I also want to express my deep disappointment and regret that the BBC has trashed all but a handful of Troughton 's tenure as The Doctor. What a shame, and a waste. jkband@gateway.net

5 out of 5 stars A Must See For All Doctor Who Fans   September 30, 1999

The War Games is an excellent episode and displays Patrick Troughton at his best. In watching this epic, I really feel that it's a shame most of Troughtons episodes are gone, but this episode has a great story and significant background about the Time Lords, the Doctors people.
