Tivo External Hard Drive November 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I went from 20 hrs of HD space on my Tivo to 80 hrs. It was easy to set up and within a half hour it was ready to go!
Well Worth the Investment November 9, 2008 My DVR is shared by the family in our exercise room. Everyone in the family wants to watch their special TV shows when they exercise daily. The WD DVR Expander took my Time Warner Scientic Atlanta 8000 HD DVR from 20 hours of HD programming to 80 hours of HD programming. My family now thinks I'm a genius!
Great Expander November 2, 2008 I bought this expander a few weeks ago and think it works great. I no longer have to worry about being glued to my TV set to watch things I have recorded in fear of loosing the stuff as my DVR filled up. My only problem with this expander was the hook up. I followed the directions exactly as they were written in the instruction book and it did not work. I tried it several times and ended up calling their technical support line. On the phone they told me to do it the opposite of what the book said. In other words, I was to plug the DVR in, then plug the cord from the expander into the DVR, and then lastly plug the Expander power cord in. Up until I did it that way, I couldn't get my DVR to recognize it. Once it recognized it, then I got instructions on the TV screen as to how to proceed to install it so I could have the additional memory.
As advertised November 2, 2008 When I added HD service to my cable, I discovered that the cable box (provided by my provider Cox Cable) stored a woefully small amount of HD programming.
This product was easy to install following the very simple instructions that came with the unit.
It dramatically expanded my recording capabilities.
No worries October 30, 2008 Bought this to go with my HD TiVo. Followed the directions and it was really simple to set up (there is one trick, I think you have to power off the TiVo and boot the drive first, then boot the TiVo). I have not thought about it at all since then, but we have over 100 suggestions now and never have to worry about having a recording deleted accidentally. This really made the HD TiVo more useable; without it the HD programming filled the drive in about 10 days. (Our TiVo's drive was not the largest we could have got; I think we got an HD TiVo that's not the one named Series 3.)
