Product Description
Developed at Rebellion by the team responsible for the original 1999 classic, in the all-new Aliens vs. Predator players have the chance to take the role of the three infamous species; the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien. Each of the three species has its very own distinct story-driven single-player campaign mode that interweaves with the campaigns of the other two species. Aliens vs. Predator will also feature unique 3-way online multiplayer, allowing gamers to pit the three species against each other in the ultimate battle for survival and for the right to be crowned the deadliest species. On planet BG-386 a colonist mining group discovers an ancient pyramid containing a dark and horrible secret. Across the stars a race of warriors is alerted to the discovery of their pyramid and a hunting party is dispatched to ensure that it remains sealed at all costs, whilst deep inside the ruined pyramid a malevolent intelligence awakes from centuries of dormancy. The Marines story is an incredible fight against the odds, and the horrors lurking in the dark. Beset on all sides yet armed to the teeth, the Colonial Marine represents humanitys last stand with the firepower to fight back. As the Alien, players will discover what its like to be the most murderous and lethal creature in the universe, with the ability to traverse any surface with awesome agility in order to get close enough to unleash its deadly teeth and claws. A master of the hunt, the Predator grants the player a suite of exotic weaponry and equipment with which to stalk its unknowing prey. Earn the greatest honour by ambushing prey up-close and butchering them for a gory trophy kill.

Huuuge disappointment March 10, 2010 M. Grzywnowicz Let me start by saying that I've been waiting for this game for a long, long time.
I got the game of Amazon right when it came out. Installation went without a problem - and that is about the only truly positive feeling about the game.
When I run it for the first time the sound was broken. Only some sounds would play ie gunshots but there was no music or dialogue. Bad start. Quick trip onto the web and I found out I'm not alone here - game cannot properely deal with sound on PC and needs certain speaker and sound quality set in Windows or it won't work properely so I had to switch off my Dolby Digital (which works in every single other game including Diablo 2).
Okay, sound sorted, let's play. First impression here - console port. A bit wooden control over the character and limiter interaction but otherwise ok. Graphics not up to current standard in my opinion and maps a bit smallish.
I played a while and unfortunatelly I didn't get any of the original AvP feel. When playing a marine aliens seem armoured (you can expend half a clip from Pulse Rifle hitting one without killing it) - that's not how it was in the game or the movie. Also, you can get into melee with a few xenomorphs and survive - you can even survive facehugger attack... I mean, seriously, would bashing an alien with a rifle help you reckon?
There's no feeling of danger lurking in every corner, no feeling of fear when you see aliens going at you knowing that you have to kill'em before they get to you... no you just let them in and besh'em with the rifle. There's no feeling of immersion in the universe or the story.
Checkpoint system seems a bit broken as well. I'm not a fan of checkpoints and prefer to do my own saves but if you put a checkpoint system into the game it would be nice if it worked. On a few occasions I'd go through a few point where is says checkpoint, then die and find out that I'm at the beginning of the level.
All in all, if you're a fan of AvP 1 & 2 think twice before buying this, maybe try a demo first. Now that I bought it I know I'd be better of playing one of the previous games again rather than this.
Modern Warfare 2 : Aliens March 8, 2010 Christopher Burns (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Could be worse and could be better. The game plays out as as a story from three different perspectives (i.e. the Marine, Predator & Alien all have a different part of the story to tell) - although it does seem a little odd in places, as if there was more but it's been cut out.
The game engine itself is pretty impressive, but a little buggy. If you have a high-end system, it's likely to suffer from a stuttering bug where occasionally, it will simply hang and not do anything for 10 seconds or so. This gets pretty damn annoying, and the developers, Rebellion, claim it's related to users choosing too high a texture setting for their video card. This is nonsense; not only do I have 896mb of dedicated video RAM (x2 in an SLI setup), but changing to "high" down from "very high" didn't cure the stuttering. It also didn't change the visuals very much either, but that's another issue.
The story for each race is fairly short; the Marine probably gets the most out of it all, followed by the Predator & Alien, and in total, there's maybe 12-15 hours of gameplay if you take your time -about average, but nowhere near Fallout3 or STALKER levels of gameplay. Each race also plays quite differently due to their differing abilities. The Alien is fast but surprisingly fragile - you must be stealthy at all times; the Marine relies on ranged weapons while the Predator & Alien mostly need to get in close, and so on. All in all, it's an interesting mix and the differences in the storyline are played out quite well. There's also a decent selection of multiplayer modes for all species and a wave-after-wave "survival" mode for the Marine. It's also a gratifyingly tough game if you play on "hard" or better - running headlong into the action will get you killed very quickly here.
Without the stuttering bug I encountered, I'd be highly pleased with it in all, but the bug, and the lame excuse for the bug, is very annoying. For the money, though, there's a decent amount of game in here.
Nice! March 7, 2010 M. Bischof Since its antecessor "AvP2" I've fascinated about the atmosphere in this game. Therefore I had high expectations of this new release. And they mostly have been fulfilled.
The graphic is fantastic - if you call a powerful PC your own - and also the ambient sound and music brings you into the action.
Playing as a Predator...is power! You hunt them down, sneaking cloaked on trees to trap and kill them for the honour of your clan.
Playing as an Alien...is pure adrenaline! You are controlled by the instincts of a beast. Crawling on walls and ceilings with only one goal: slaughter them all!
Playing an USMC...well, is panic! You feel watched all the time. You expect the enemy around every corner. Corner? Damn, what is above me? NOOOO, NOT MEEEEE! *argh* To be honest, playing a Marine is VERY scary because you feel all the time more to be the bait then the hunter.
All in all a worthy successor of AvP2.
The bad:
One word: Steam! Why do I have to install the game from 2 DVDs and still have to download gigabytes(!) from Steam to finish the install? First I thought the install was stuck because my DVD drive did not read anymore. But then I saw that there was still a progress and that my router downloaded tons of data. After about 1.30 hours and several gigabytes of downloaded data later the install was finished! Hello? Kidding? This is absolutely unacceptable! The longest install ever encountered in my PC history. Furthermore I was not able to change the install folder of the game itself. So assure yourself having enough free space left on drive c:.
The good thing is that Steam works fine so far and I don't need the DVDs in my drive to play.
Fun game with lots of potential, released before it was ready though March 5, 2010 Mr. S. Knott Got this game after keeping an eye on trailers and playing the demo a lot with some friends, and for the price I think it was well worth it.
The single player campaign is quite challenging on the harder settings and introduces you to the new melee system well (more on that later). Overall the settings are very atmospheric with a lot of dark and detailed areas (though not so much that you are annoyed by it), the sound is well done and the trophy/stealth kill animations are awesome. Running DX11 on my HD5850 and with the settings cranked up the game looks very good, there are games out there that are more graphically pleasing but they also have a tendency to run with poor FPS on the highest settings, this doesn't. Main complaint is that the Alien campaign is too short and there are a fair few holes in the storyline.
The new melee mode with a rock/paper/scissors style is very innovative and overall it works well. It takes a while to get used to as you have to watch your opponent closely to anticipate his incoming move but is much more tactical than "get close and spam mouse 1" which melee often ends up being.
MP is great fun but I get that feeling that this game was released far too early and again is suffering from consolification. There are a few (some major) bugs and the trophy/stealth kill chains get a little ridiculous. The initial lack of dedicated servers and some "problems" with steam and steam cloud regarding settings and rankings also hurt a lot at the start. Now there are beta dedicated servers for non-ranked matches the MP is a lot more fun to play, especially with friends, and whoever thought of infestation mode is a genius.
A lot of these problems can be fixed with relatively small changes through patching so it will be interesting to see how much support Sega give Rebellion to fix these issues. Once dedicated servers are out fully and a few other bugs are fixed through patches this will be a great game. 5/5 for fun, 4/5 overall due to the bugs and poor initial MP support.
Very limited environment and still feels console like March 3, 2010 Andrew Powell (UK) Many of these console ports as they seem to be, are just poor compared to pc specific game.
This game is no different, It may be an 18 but the console type prompts to click and things like the predator jumping just feel very limited, because it is!!!. You have to stand in just the right place to make a super jump. it would have been much better if you would just anywhere, if you didn't make it, well that's life.
- It does feel very limited and confined in what a character can do.
- Graphics are nothing special.
- Heavily scripted, some stages involve a constant spawning of aliens until you get out or complete and objective. I for one hate spawning.
On the plus side the Marine's motion sensor is great and does add to the atmosphere. Aliens jump all over the wall and like to hang from ceilings.
