2 out of 5 stars fun for a while?!   March 6, 2010
Mr. Marc W. Vardy
just brought this game as it finally went cheap so gave it ago and although it is good fun to start with it get boring/annoying very quickly its all to unrealistic if you bring a spinner on every ball will be a 4 or a 6 and then when a fast bowler comes on even a yorker 7 times out of 10 will just be smashed to the boundary. i just think with a little more effort it could be a good game so lets wait and see for the next one to come out

4 out of 5 stars Awesome cricket game!   December 20, 2009

This is a great cricket game for any cricket enthuastic! Stunning graphics combined with variety of old cricketers commentery makes it a surreal experience. However the biggest let down is licesnced teams. Only two teams are licencsed, Australia and England. Rest all the teams are left with funny names and totally different faces. It's s main let down. However if u play at hard level, it feels almost like a real game. Missfielding, edge and some real bowling and batting skills required for hard level. I findtgis game extremely fascinating and willbe looking forward for the next update from code masters!

1 out of 5 stars Could Do Better   November 23, 2009

I was thinking with the Wii's control system this would be a great game, but no.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good laugh, but with everything else that goes with the Wii, the playability could be much improved.

Despite being a big fan of the sport, i've not been tempted to buy any cricket video games beforehand as they were pathetic attempts in comparison to the long established football alternatives.

Ashes Cricket 2009 has completely changed my view.

Having played it at a friends house, i found it extremely difficult, especially batting. However, the commentary, graphics and game-play had me interested.

A few days later, my Amazon copy arrived. A couple of hours in, i became increasingly frustrated by the difficulty. In 'normal' mode, i was getting skittled out for under a 100 runs and i was ready to agree with some reviews that it was just too hard to play. However, after reverting to 'Easy' mode and building up experience over a week, 'Normal' mode is now struggling to give me a challenge! The key is to utilise all the various controls you are provided with.

So, as with any other good game, you can't just pick it up and play expecting to be Freddie Flintoff. It certainly takes perseverance, but the rewards are there. It's immensely satisfying getting that first 50 and 100, especially against the Ozzies! A nice catch from a experimental field placing will get you punching the air in satisfaction, whilst a perfect spinner that rattles middle and off will get you on your feet! I even found myself clapping the team's effort...

Drawbacks? It's certainly a time killer. A quick game is impossible, but you can save whenever you like. This is essential as my game has crashed a couple of times during a long match, so be sure to save progress regularly. Apart from that, i would just be nit-picking. Yes, commentary is a little repetitive, but it brings a familiar and realistic background noise to the game. Replays aren't that great, but then you have fantastic features such as hawkeye to fall back on.

The most annoying thing for me is a lack of LBWs. A few times i have hit a batsmen square in the pad and my bowler didn't even appeal. AI for run-outs could be improved too, as it's a little awkward. There was also a bug once where my batsman was standing in his crease but was given as run out! He was on 98...

As i said, this is nit picking, and doesn't distract from an otherwise brilliant game. That's not brilliant for a cricket game, nor a sports game, it is up there with the best games i've played on the Xbox, full stop.

4 out of 5 stars keeps You Comming Back For more   October 2, 2009

Ashes Cricket 2009 is easily the best cricketing game so far. The graphics are good, and unlike most, i thought the player likenesses in England and Australia are quite good, especialy Ryan Sidebottom and Ricky Ponting. The Ashes campaign is excelent, although when mastered, medium is easy, i got australia out for under 100 3 times in 4 tests, but on hard its a challenge. im 1 nill down at Lords, although im leading by 69 with 10 wickets in hand.

I thought that the Twenty20 in England and the ICC Champions Trophy could have been encourparted aswell.

The batsman should also be able to move about within his crease - im talking about depth in his crease so counteracting the yorker etc.

The Stamina levels are not good enough, fast bowlers can bowl maximun 5-6 overs in one spell, and in a test match on day one you could find paul collingwood or for Austrlia Mike Husses bowling in around the fifteenth over, same for Odi's.

The tournaments also only start from quater finals.

Free Hits in ODI'S, only in Twenty20's

in notcied that the players appeal to the wrong umpire.

AI needs to score more defensively, they usualy slog spinners, in tests Ai should score at 3-6 an over but in odi's fair enough quick scoring rate but it needs to be controlled so they bat out all the overs.

Bowls can happen but not often, and when you do bowl them, stmups should come out of the ground.

This may seem alot but i am very picky, It's a good game worth the money.
